Holly Yashi jewelry available online!

We have some new additions to our website!  Beautiful pieces by jewelry artist, Holly Yashi.  Her bohemian style appeals to the free spirit in all of us.  Beautiful colors are her signature.  The niobium metal that she uses on many of her pieces takes color beautifully and is very lightweight.  The jewelry is all made by artisans in California.  We love that it is made in the USA.

Countdown to Christmas!

Are you ready?  Seems this season is sneaking up on us.  Sometimes I wonder how our customers in the south can gauge the holiday season.  I need snow to give me that motivation push.  This year, we haven't had it and I wonder if I will have my act together in time. So how is your holiday motivation?  We can help you out, we have lots of great small hostess gifts, coworker gifts, everything is covered, all the way up to that great statement gift.  Great ideas like wonderfully fragranced Pre-de-Provence soaps, Votivo candles, and Thymes bath and body products to stimulate that sense of smell and Blue Q socks that will make you laugh. We have beautiful handmade jewelry - both fair-trade and local and luxurious cashmere sweaters.

Leland Blue stone, Petoskey stone and beachglass necklace

Rock hounds have been collecting their treasures along the Lake Michigan shoreline for years.  During our summer camping trips, my family would always take to the beaches searching for Petoskey stones.  This state stone of Michigan has the distinct pattern of fossilized coral and has been smoothed by thousands of years.  The pattern is most easily seen when the stones are wet or polished.  A more recent product of the lake, is the Leland Blue stone.  Deposits of slag from smelting plants are found on the Lake Michigan beaches near Leland.  This glass mixed with chemicals is found in varying shades of blue, green and purple.

Susan Nelson has been making jewelry using Petoskey stones, Leland Blue stones and beach glass. Each of her stones is hand-cut and shaped. We love the "tri" necklace which uses all three of these. We also have the simple Leland Blue with pearl necklace.  We are so lucky to have her handmade creations available in our store!

Sweaters from dog hair?

I love knits.  No matter what I do, I always go back to a love of fibers, beautiful yarns and needlework.  So, imagine the confused state I was in when I found this link to some pretty bizarre knits.  Not sure if it's creative or creepy or just very funny...I may have to start defining some limits. LOL.

This was blogged at: If It's Hip, It's Here: Wearing The Hair Of The Dog. Portraits Of People In Clothes Made From Their Pets' Fur.

Next project?

                                              Handknit patch blanket
I love these.  Such a fun knitting project.  You couldn't possibly get bored since you are always on to a new patch with a new pattern and color.  The UGLY dolls are really cute, too.

Penny pillow - Inspired by penny rugs

Folk art penny rugs have always mesmerized me. As a result, everyone around me is getting pennies for Christmas!

Each pillow has 9 pennies.  Since all the pennies are different and no color has been used twice - each pillow requires 27 felted sweaters.  I love these - there are lots more in my future...
